The Maine Coon-cat is one of the oldest, natural breed in Norh America and comes originally from the State of Maine.

There are many fantastic myths and legends about the roots of the Maine Coon origin. One of the most common myths is that the Maine Coon is a cross-bred between a wild cat and a racoon. That is why the breed has got the name "Maine Coon".

The bushy tail, the Maine Coon cats habit of "washing" things/food in the water-bowl and the origin colouring strengthened the myth, which later has been proved to be a genetical impossibility.

The rase has developed by the choice of nature itself. The biggest, the strongest, the smartest and the best hunters survived.

The hunting-origin has given the Maine Coon its characteristic look. Powerful jaws with a big nose section which gives the impression of squarness.

Big eyes and big tuft and hairy ears to see and hear the booty better. Big, round and hairy paws that works as snow-shoes in the winter. A long and bushy tail to wipe around himself during cold nights.

The Maine Coon, with its strong fur, semilong and water resistant has nothing corresponding to it. The quality is silky and very easy to groom.

The body is long with a heavy boning. Males can weigh around 6-8 kilos and the females around 4-6 kilos. Add a couple of inches wintercoat and the impression is - a LARGE cat.

The Maine Coon kitten develops very rapidly during his first year, but than the developing-speed decreases and a Maine Coon cat is fully grown at about four/five years of age.

The Maine Coon cat is a charming cat, it is affectionat, calm and has a very good temper. He is also a very play-ful cat. There is no problem in keeping the Maine Coon as an indoor cat. He is a very social cat and he likes to be near you and follow you around and he also likes to lend you a helping paw whether you need it or not....

A funny peculiarity with the Maine Coon cat is, except for his "weak" miaow, a very special chirping sound which he often use when he says hello to his family, his cat-friends, complaints about his food or just want to tell you that he likes to play.
